History
Mountain View Power (MVP) was founded a decade ago by a group of volunteers known as the Olds Institute for Regional and Community Development ('OI' for short). OI volunteers were also responsible for founding O-NET, the high-speed internet provider based in Olds, along with other initiatives, such as economic development, health professional attraction and retention, and various community grant programs.
MVP was established as an avenue for citizens to give back to their community more easily. Funds raised from MVP were distributed to causes based around OI's 5 pillars of sustainability: social, culture, environment, economy, and governance.
Following the dissolution of OI in 2022, the responsibility for MVP was transferred to the Town of Olds with the original mission of MVP intact and all profits raised returned to the community.
How MVP works
Mountain View Power is a Community Energy Marketer, who sells electricity and gas on behalf of UTILITYnet, a Calgary based energy retailer. Mountain View Power offers competitive rates to its customers with the distinct advantage of putting all profits generated from its sales back into the community via grant programs and dedicated funding streams.
MVP dollars are used to fund youth sports, arts and culture programming, community leisure facilities, and economic initiatives in the Town of Olds and surrounding Mountain View County area.
How to get involved
On this website, you can apply here for electricity and/or natural gas service. MVP only accepts pre-qualified customers, to limit rate exposure to bad debt / payment delinquency, so a quick credit check will be completed on all applicants.
If you have any questions, you can phone or email MVP's customer care team (information at the bottom of this page) or the Town of Olds here
